Is there any reason that I can't format a USB 2.0 external hard drive (Teac
80GB) to NTFS? It came with FAT32 on it. I'm running Win XP Home SP2.

Thanks,
Ed

None whatsoever.

Just open up My Omputer, right click on the drive and select FORMAT

Hello Ed,

None what so ever, you should just be able to right click on it in my
computer and go to format. or you can open up the command prompt and type
format [drive letter].

Yes and no...
You can format it as NTFS, but then it won't be easily read/writeable by
anything else than XP...(Linux writing to NTFS is not guaranteed)
So if it ever needs to be connected to a machine running a Win9x series
OS...

Removable HDs are recommended to be formatted FAT32..
