USB driver signing

At a sudden my laptop with W2K Pro SP4, with all avavialble
updates does no longer like the USB driver used for USB memory
devices.
Connecting a new device (never used on this PC) results in one
or a sequence of "Driver not digitally signed" warnings.
Even when searcing for the Driver on Windows Update, it gives
this warning.
Can continue to install, to make the USB device to work.
Subsequent use of the same USB device is ok.
The PC is clean of virusses and malware according to McAfee
VirusScan, Stinger and Ad-Aware.

On another W2K SP4 partition on the same Pc is works all fine.
I also copied the \winnt\system32\drivers\usbstor.sys and
\winnt\inf\usbstor.inf from the good partion to the bogus one,
without improvement.

To change the driver signing options, follow these steps:

1. Click Start and then right-click My Computer.
2. Click Properties and then click the Hardware tab.
3. Click the Driver Signing button. The Driver Signing Options window
opens.
4. Click "Ignore" under " What action do you want Windows to take:"

Ignore - The Windows Logo testing messages will not open and the
software will install.

Warn - The Windows Logo testing messages will open.

Block - Software recognized by Window as failing Windows Logo
testing will not be installed.

5. Select "Make this action the system default" and then click OK.

I hope this helps.

No that doesn't help.
The fact is that:
a- The USB drive finally works.
b- The driver, even copied from a good working partion,
indicates that it is NOT signed.
