USB Driver Problem

I recently started having problems with my PC crashing whilst loading and
always at the point when my USB optical mouse was starting up. Using safe
mode I found that a new entry was showing - Intel(R) 82801/DBM USB 2.0
Enhanced Host controller. This was in addition to three other entries all
headed Intel(R) 82801/DBM USB Universal Host Controller - 24C2, 24C4 and
24C7. I uninstalled the enhanced controller and rebooted. The OS installed
the enhanced controller again and the PC crashed at the same point on next
reboot. When I disabled the enhanced host controller my PC worked (and still
works) perfectly. My concern is that I cannot understand why the OS is
installing the enhanced controller when the other controllers function
perfectly satisfactorily. Any views would be appreciated. I am using XP Home
SP2

Sorry - The full entry for the enhanced controller is "Intel(R) 82801DB/DBM
USB 2.0 Enhanced Host Controller - 24CD"

USB 2.0 support was added in SP2. It is a faster version of USB 1.1. Your
mouse must not be compatible with USB 2.0. Even though USB 2.0 should work
with USB 1.1 devices. You may want to update your mouse driver.
