USB drive

Hi,
I got a USB drive, but I don't know why sometimes it
works sometimes it doesn't work. Normally, when you plug
the usb drive into the usb port, then it will
automatically appear inside the "My computer". But
sometimes it doesn't appear, so what should I do?

Are you plugging it up to external power ?? or just the
USB port. Plug up the power first then plug to the port.
