USB digital camera

I have been trying to install a USB web cam.
I am on a second mfg camera.
Using W2K Pro SP4.
Uninstall, shut down and start many times.
Install drivers (latest from mfg)
Get error during p&p wizard: quote
USB digital camera
An error occurred during the installation of the device.
The data is invalid. unquote

Happened with both cameras.
USB only.
Serial camera works.

What to do next?

have you tried installing the software for the camera

first, and then connecting the camera? I'm having just the
opposite problem with mine usb camera works fine, serial
not good luck
