USB devices won't auto play

J

Jack Lamers

When I connect a memory stick or my digital camera, Windows Vista used to
take action and shows me folders or starts picture gallery and starts the
wizard to import pictures (or asks me what to do with the new device).

Since I installed VMWare workstation (which wants to disable all
autorun/autoplay) this is not working anymore. I think the change is made in
Registry and should be HKEY_CU (or
HKEY_LM)\Software\Mircosoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer\NoDriveTypeAutoRun (REG_DWORD with HEX value of 95)

Anyone knows which value or registry setting I need to re-enable autoplay on
my USB devices?

Thanks in advance

Jack

Take a look at this link from my website:
http://vistasupport.mvps.org/autorun_autoplay_don't_work_when_cddvd_is_inserted.htm

In step 11, if the option is set to 255 or that of 0xb5 then set the option
to 91 as instructed.

Incidentally, sometimes you cannot find the NoDriveTypeAutoRun no matter how
hard you look, I suggest that you actually use the Find option; type in
NoDriveTypeAutoRun in the find box and then click Find.
