USB Devices Stop Working After SP1 Upgrade

I added SP1 to my XP Home Edition. Now my Veo camera, HP
scanner and HP printer do not work (USB attached). I
assumed an internal USB 1 issue and upgraded to a PCI 2.0
card. I added a Belkin 2.0 hub. Still the same problem.
If I go to the Veo tool and "take a picture", there in no
picture, except a very dark image at the lowest
resolution. Device manager shows that the Hub and USB
devices are installed and functioning properly. The
devices are recognized because the printer goes offline
when I try to print. When put back online I get an error
message that the device can not print. The scanner
creates a very poor resolution image. I've tried taking
the devices out of the hub and connecting directly to the
USB 1 and 2 ports... no help. The computer is an HP P4,
with a Via motherboard. Can anyone help?

First the camera. The Veo comes with a camera interface program that
must be used to set up the camera brightness and contrast. The fact
that you get a picture at all says the USB is OK.

Secondly, your scanner also has a TWAIN interface that is used to
calibrate the scanner.

Thirdly , there is a problem having two of scanners, cameras, or
scanner/camera attached at the same time due to the interaction of a
single TWAIN interface in XP. AFIK, there is no workaround and a hub
will not help.

Lastly, you need to test the printer with nothing else attached to the
USB. If you find the same problems, then go to Cari's excellent site
for correcting printer driver installation problems and follow her
excellent instructions *to the letter*, intuition will not suffice.

effort to educate us XP users?

If the printer actually goes offline, I'm thinking along the lines that the
PSU (power supply unit) in the PC is not able to supply sufficient power to
USB ports... each port needs a certain amount of power... and if you exceed
that, one (or more) will lose power and therefore you would experience the
problems you are currently identifying.

Certainly a couple of years ago, HP PCs were infamous for a horribly
insufficient PSU.

All was working fine prior to the SP1 upgrade... printer,
scanner and camera. Veo was set up correctly, and the
TWAIN interface was working correctly. In addition, the
power is sufficient to power the devices.

I was thinking along the lines of the chip set may need to
be upgraded... Any additional thoughts?

Thanks!
