Yes another person in the world with USB devices not working. Not one device
works I've followed the troubleshooter which couldn't help. The device comes
up as "USB Device Not Recognised One of the USB devices attached to this
computer has malfunctioned, and window does not recognise it." I have gone to
troubleshooter and in the device manager it is listed as "unknown" the device
staus bar says "There are no drivers installed and the device is working
properly. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the driver, The device is enabled
I've updated windows I've worn out the troubleshooter I've even tried system
restore. One of you clever plps should be able to help.
Thanks Boobalee

Hi Boobalee,

I would download the MS USB Device Viewer (circa 2005). Once I have
that program setup, I would go to Device Manager and delete the
drivers for your USB card(s). Then shut down the computer.

When the computer has restarted, it should reload the drivers. Once
that is done, run the MS USB Viewer program.

Once the viewer is on your screen, make sure the device you are
trying to attach is turned on. Plug in the device.

A couple of thinks should happen

1) Sound saying informing you that a new device has been found
2) A bubble should appear telling you what it found
3) If the device is a standard device then the bubble should tell
you that the device has been installed. The bubble should then tell
you that the device is ready to use.

Now look at the MS USB viewer window. It should have changed. In the
left pane of the window that list your USB devices, it should show
the device that was plugged in. If you click on that device, the
right pane should then fill with information about the device.

One of the reasons I like this particular version of the USB Viewer
is that it will even report an under-powered device. For example if
you plug in a USB hard disk and it doesn't have enough power to
actually run and show in 'Computer Management', it will show in the
USB Viewer and you can use the information to help diagnose you problem.

Note that the USB Viewer will give you information about the root
hub for each device also that might help you diagnose the problem.

Ciao . . . C.Joseph
