USB Devices not showing as a hardware type when hardware wizard is triggered

I'm trying to connect a USB drive (inside a Roland keyboard) to my Windows
2000 laptop. The device should not need a driver (except on Win 98), but the
hardware wizard is recognizing it as "Other Device" "Int.Storage" and
finding no applicable driver.

Shouldn't USB device be hardware type recognized; that isn't even showing
upon on the list of hardware types, although other USB devices are working
on my machine.

Any idea how to fix problem (or begin troubleshooting) and get drive
recognized?

The first thing I'd do is check the support web site of the drive's vendor
and look for driver downloads, FAQ for your drive model, and also search MS
Knowledge Base for any hint relating to your hardware for compatibility
issues.

Next, I'd try to reinstall by using Hardware Mgr to uninstall the 'other
device' thru its properties, rebooting to see if the new hardware wizard
will pop up & follow instructions. Last, I would use the add new hardward
icon in control panel and see if it lists the hardware by type or vendor
when you click that you want to identify the hardware yourself.

Good luck
