My computer can sometimes recognize my USB thumb drive now. My earlier post,
USB device, received replies that did not help me solve my problem. I tried
their advice, but the advice did not work for me. When I try to send files
to my USB thumb drive, I recieve an error copying file or folder message.
Even stranger, when I click to explore the contents of my USB thumb drive, it
appears empty when it actually contains a file. The USB thumb drive even is
shown as full in its properties.

========================

USB drives have a limit to the number of files that can be outside of
folders (in the root directory) if the file type is FAT16 as opposed to
FAT32 or NTFS.

It only allows 512 root entries if FAT16. With FAT32 you can have about
65,000 entries in any folder, including the root. For NTFS it's practically
unlimited. Long filenames reduce the number of available entries.

What is the exact error message?

Cannot copy X: Cannot find the specified file.

Make sure you specify the correct path and file name.

(Note that X is the name of the file)
