USB Device Not Recognized.

Hi there,

I hope you can help basically I get an error message saying
"USB Device Not Regonized".

Attached to the PC is only a Globespan ADSL Modem which device manager
states that is working perfectly. To try and track down the problem,

I have
booted machine in SAFE mode and uninstalled
the modem,
Standard Open PCI to USB Host Controller,
Standard Enhanced USB Host Controller,
Root Hubs and finally the Universal Serial Bus Controller.

I shut the pc down and removed the single plugged in USB devices (ie Modem)
and did a normal power up of the PC.

XP loaded and re-installed
Standard Open PCI to USB Host Controller
Standard Enhanced USB Host Controller
Universal Serial Bus Controller.

AND

In addition it also installed an Unknown Device.

So the situation is that XP installed is a USB device which wasn't connected
and informs me every 15-30 secs that the the unknown device that isn't
connected is not working properly.......

Please help.

My system spec basic is as follows

Operating System Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2 (build 2600)
System Model eveshamvale MS-7125 1.0
Processor a 2.00 gigahertz AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core
BIOS: Phoenix Technologies, LTD 6.00 PG 05/22/2006

In case you didn't check the Windows article "General USB troubleshooting in
Windows XP",

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310575/en-us

for ideas to resolve your case.

Thanks Ka2H, I have checked the artilce and unfortunately this does not help.

When I right click the device that it says is not working, bearing in mind
that there is no other device connected to the pc then the properties windon
in device manager do the following

shows
Device Type Universal Serial Bus Controller
Manufacturer (Standard USB Host Controller)
Location 0 (USB Device)

The device status then alternates between No Drivers INstalled for this
device and a Code 45 message.

The final thing that I can tell you is when I check the driver details it
says the publisher is Microsoft Windows Publisher, date 01/07/2001 and the
details are 5.1.2600.0

Can anyone help please?

I am sorry that the referenced article did not put you in position to
resolve your problem with the Not Recognized USB Device – so far.

I assume that the problem occurred as a (mal-) function of one kind or
another following an activity when you worked on the PC, and that you are
absolutely confident the PC is free of any kind of malware. It might be
useful to see whether you could recall when it happened, or / and any
updates, downloads of programs etc. that was installed in the same timeframe.
When I right click the device that it says is not working,

Another Microsoft article which may be helpful is “How to troubleshoot
unknown devices that are listed in Device Manager in Windows XPâ€:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314464
The device status then alternates between No Drivers INstalled for this
device and a Code 45 message.
“Explanation of error codes generated by Device Manager in Microsoft Windows
XP Professionalâ€, although it doesn’t really give you a lot:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310123/en-us

And two more references to Microsoft articles which don’t apply directly to
your case, but -;

“You Receive a "USB Device Not Recognized" Error Message When You Resume
Your Computer from Suspend or Hibernationâ€:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/318773

“USB Device Is Not Recognized After Computer Starts Upâ€:
