usb device not recognized

My usb devices have worked just fine, but just recently they stopped. It was
about the same time i updated for windows. I have gone to the device
manager, and looked for any yellow or red in the list, and there was nothing.
when i plug in my mp3 player, it is still able to get charged, but i am not
able to access it on my computer to add or remove songs. Nothing else has
changed. I also tried to uninstall the xp update (1 of 8 updates) only, and
there was no change. There were other updates but none are directed to the
OS. I think the other are to office 2003.

Any help would be helpful.

Go to Start/Run, and type DEVMGMT.MSC , highlight the USB Root Hub device(s),
Action menu, "Uninstall", then restart Windows, to find the device drivers
again automatically.

If you prefer the player to the update, use System Restore to go back to a
date before it quit working.

For some reason the earliest system restore was from may 9th at 2pm. The
problems started the night before. I don't know why there aren't any more
system restore points. I have had this computer for about a year.

thanks

I was starting to think about that but i was not sure if there was still
another option.

Thanks for the help.
