USB Device causes pc hang/freeze

Hi.

I have formatted my laptop due to some 'issues'.

Since then I have updated Windows XP to SP2 and all the updates.

Everytime I plug in a USB device, it will work for a few minutes then the pc
will completely freeze up.

the only response i can get is if press and hold the power button to turn it
of.

Before I formatted my pc, this never happened and the usb drives workd fine.

any advice on this?

MSoft changed the USB drivers to more closely conform to the USB specs. It
may be that your laptop is having problems because of this change.
If so, it is possible although not desired to revert to the older driver
version.
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=873169 Has nothing to do with
reverting, but it may address one of the possibilities.

Another possibility is updating BIOS and chipset specific drivers.
Finally, some device USB drivers may need to be updated.

Sorry can't answer problem but I have had the same problem for several
months. I cannot find any cause as the card works on another computer. I
cannot get an answer from any techie site so if you get a solution please let
me know and visa versa.
