Hi,

After installing a new USB 2.0 board in my Win XP system, the computer will
not shut down. It reboots each time I try to shut down the computer. If I
take the board out, the problem goes away.
Any Ideas?

Don

Nick,
Yes. I downloaded the newest one from the company website.

I went through a similiar experience after installing my USB 2.0.
Following is what fixed it for me.
Get into "Device manager"
Scroll down to "USB 2.0 hub"
Right click and select properties.
Open the "Power management" tab, and uncheck "allow system to cut power to
this device".
Hope this is of some help.

It seems feasible that when you attempt to shutdown Windows XP, the system
reboots due to system failure (default behaviour within Windows XP). A good
first step would be to disable the Automatically restart on System failure
feature of XP (Right-click My Computer and select Properties to view System
Properties next click the Advanced tab then the Settings button under
Startup and Recovery, now uncheck the Automatically restart tick box unser
System failure). If you now attempt to shutdown you should receive an error
message if there is a system failure, please note this message and post it
here for further analysis. Also, do you have any devices plugged into the
USB 2.0 card? If so, which?

Thanks James, but it did not work for me.

Ryan,

There was no error message when I shut down after unchecking the
Automatically restart box. No devices are plugged into the USB card.

Ryan,

It was Iogear. I use past tense because I just got back from the computer
store. I exchanged it for a new board from Micro Innovations, and this one
works fine. Thanks for your help.
