USB Barcode scanner and rebooting

I have a Symbol LS4250 wireless scanner attached to an XPE workstation
though USB that connects to the base unit for the scanner. I have no
problem getting the scanner to funtion on the workstation, until I
reboot. After a reboot I must unplug the scanner and replug it in to
get it to work again.

I have tested a Symbol LS4200 scanner that attaches via USB and it does
not have any problem with a reboot.

I checked device manager before and after the reboot. When the scanner
is working (before the reboot) there is a Human Interface Device and an
HID Keyboard. After the reboot neither of these show up.

The scanner is powered off of the USB cable, however it does have an
optional external power supply, which I did try, but it made no
differance in the results.

I have read through other similar problems on the XPE group and tried
added suggested components with no change in behavior.

If anyone has any other suggestions I am open to try anything.

Thanks

We had an identical problem with the Symbol LS9208 USB scanner when we
first evaluated it a couple of years ago. The problem turned out to be
a firmware issue that only existed in their initial product release.
Unfortunately, affected units had to be sent back to Symbol for a
firmware upgrade as there was no provision for us to be able to upgrade
the firmware ourselves.

The issue I am having is that this is only happening on the XPE. I have
hooked it up to a regular XP computer and I have no issues with a
reboot.

I have spoken to symbol. The base unit I have has the latest firmware
and the scanner is down 1 revision (I am sending off a scanner to get
flashed just in hopes of this working).

Thanks for the suggestion. Has anyone else seen anything similar with
XPE that may know of a missing component? I have everything included to
get the scanner functioning (usb support, HID devices, Human Inerface
device, ect.), just have the problem on the restart.

I am wrestling with something disturbingly similar. I'm setting up my
XPE with a custom shell with a numeric keypad and an hhp 3800lr
scanner. Same as you, the scanner works fine on xp pro, along with the
keypad. When I boot using my custom shell, nada...nothing.
Keypad/scanner/regular keyboard does not work. I have the HID
keyboard, composite device, hub, usb 2.0 components all installed.

I'm trying to back track right now because I know the devices work with
XPE... I was using them just fine when booting to the command shell.

Let me know if you find out that magical component that makes it work.

Ryan.

Ryan,

Do your components work at all or do they never work? I am able to get
them working, just havea problem that when I reboot I have to
disconnect the scanner and reconnect it to have it funtion.
