I do not want to install ALL the updates included in SP1. Is it possible to ONLY install the USB 2.0 drivers without all the other updates that are included? I like to pick and choose which updates I install. If not possible then I will continue to use my USB PCI 2.0 card instead. But it would be nice to bae able to utilize the 8 USB ports on my Epox 8KRA2I motherboard.

No. Plus if you dont install SP1 you are leaving yourself open to many
security problems.

There are updates that do not apply to me. If you read the "read more" portion of the update you will find that there are those updates that probably do not apply to you as well. I am a bit hesitant in installing things that I don't feel I need. I don't do this arbitrarily, but with a bit of research. I am of the opinion that more is not always better and if it's not broke, don't fix it. However, there is also great wisdom in "an ounce of prevention..." I have the update, just don't like being herded into a barn I don't want to go in. For now my PCI card works fine.

First-what qualifies you to feel that you don't need it? Second-SP1 i
is free, so nobody is trying to dip into your pocket. They didn't make
SP1 to rip you off. They made it to improve and debug some XP
problems. They also included drivers for USB2.0. And until recently
that was the only way you could get these drivers. Even the OEM's didn't
have the drivers on their sites. And finally, had you been reading
these newsgroups for awhile you would find that SP1 is working fine. :-(

Ian - I noted that you said "until recently." Where are the USB 2.0 drivers apart from SP1? There are updates that are designed "if you have a particular problem." If you don't have the problem why update. If it's not broke don't fix it. Microsoft withheld the 2.0 drivers to catch the corporate users of WinXP (this info came from a MVP). In the process they forced legitimate users to use the SP1 and OEMs and sites like USB-Man to remove the 2.0 drivers from their offerings. I have USB 2.0 with my PCI card which I bought prior to SP1. I have SP1 - maybe I'm a bit stubborn :-)
