USB add in card

Shelly F

I purchased an I/O Flex Hi speed USB card made by Kouwell, and
need help to install it, please..
I have WinXP home 5.1.2600 with all updates including SP1, and
USB 1.1 installed on the motherboard, Epox Epox 8K3A+ motherboard
with Award 6.00 PG 8/15/02 bios, 512MB PC2700 ram.
I inserted the PCI card driver and installed, then I shut down
and installed the PCI card. Dialog box says cannot install.
Other things I tried: Disconnected all USB cables, disabled
USB on the mother board, changed PCI slots - each time reinstalling
the new drivers and reinserting the add in card.

Shelly, try this
Q: What is the alternate way to install KW-580 if the driver does
not install automatically?
A: KW-580 uses Windows native driver and you can install it the
following way:
1. Windows detects the card as a new hardware and asks for the driver
or use "Add New Hardware" under Control Panel to install the driver
manually.
2. Choose to select hardware from a list.
3. Double click on "Universal Serial Bus Controllers".
4. Choose "Standard USB Host Controller".
5. And choose "Standard Universal PCI to USB Host Controller".

Thank you for responding. I will try it - question: should I disable
the 1.1 USB controller in the motherboard first, or will the two live
with each other?
The driver is actually a 2580N4

No need to disable 1.1 controller. The two should live well together.
Windows XP found my add on USB card (2.0) and installed the drivers needed
with no problem. There was no need to install any software from the
manufacture.

No go, will not install. I even did a system restore to delete the
supplied drivers I put in, still no go.
I will purchase a Belkin add in card - question: is there a way to
just install the Microsoft USB 2 drivers again, in case they are
corrupted or other?
I appreciate the responses very much - have a nice day-

If you have SP1/1a, you don't have to install anything except the USB2 card.
XP has the drivers and will detect the new hardware and install it.

Still need help, please.
I did a system restore back to before I installed the Kouwell card,
and I bought a Belkin F5U220 PCI to USB card - same exact problem,
with and without the Belkin USB drivers.
Windows file problem?

Success!!!!

I changed four entries that had 'read only' for USB to 'full
permissions' and rebooted.

Present system: Epox 8K3A+
Award 6.00PG 8/15/02 bios
Microsoft XP home 5.1.2600, all updates incl SP1
AMD 2.1+, DDR-SDRAM 2x256 PC2700
Works great, very stable, USB 1.1 works ok.
I am trying to install a PCI to 2.0 USB adapter, I tried 2 different
manufacturers, Kouwell 2580N4 and Belkin F5U220. Neither will install,
I get the windows 'cannot install' message whether I use the mfgrs
drivers or not. Kouwell tried also, over the phone, but no help.
I upgraded the bios to the latest, 9-16-03, no help.
