US XP on a UK machine

Hi, this should be really simple question. I've been looking for the most
cost effective way to obtain a retail license of XP pro for my workstation.
With the pound being so strong against the dollar atm, the cost in USA is so
much lower than here in the UK that I am considering purchasing a retail box
from the US and installing it on my UK machine. Is this technically possible?
ie, would it install, and activate?

The only difference between the versions of winxp sold are their language
ie US is the same as any other English Language version, be it
UK/Aus/NZ/Canada etc
Software is also import tax/vat free. & yes it activates/installs just like
any other MS software & you still get support.
You want to check the price of Vista / Office2007 in the US compared to UK
if you want to see some 'real' price differences!
Of course Adobe is a law unto itself where $ = £ in its pricing
For what its worth you will find many products/services are cheaper
overseas, even if that item is sourced in the UK, eg book a Centre Parks
holiday based in the UK from the EU and its cheaper than if booked in the UK
And yes I have bought software in the US online

Looking at US xp boxes on ebay, there is a line saying "For distribution in
US/CANADA only"... does that affect my rights at all?

I didn't buy software on eBay, but from a supplier ie they were new; ensure
those that you are looking at are not OEM specific or otherwise dubious
I had a quick look on ebay, must say your eye sight is better than mine!,
the one I looked at offered shipping to uk, but I can buy the same thing on
Ebay UK for £49 (sealed winxp pro sp2 upgrade)

Ah now that is interesting. Just had a look at upgrades and you're not wrong!
:p
And that'd be upgradable from my win2000 and 98 discs i have dobbing about.
Thinking on it i have a geniune 95 too. Hey... an upgrade could be the way
forwards. If I remember rightly they only need the older OS disc during
install.
Thanks for the pointer! That could save a few bob and still give me 100%
genuine legal windows.
Thanks again, ever so much.

Distribution means sales, basically; it can only be sold in US/Canada and
settings are for same. If you have it installed, and aren't selling
operating systems, then no big deal.
