US Robotics Modem

Mike

I have a US Robotics 56k external fax/modem connected to
a Win XP desktop. Hardware manager sees the hardware and
shows device and port working properly. I get a dialtone
when I connect the line to a phone. When I connect line
to the modem and attempt to dial, it says no dialtone was
connected. It has worked in the past on this PC.

Any ideas?

Thanks
Mike

Mosy external modems have two phone jacks. One is to connect to the
telephone line and the other is to allow a phone to use the same line. Make
sure the tel. line is in the correct jack.

If the tel. line is in the correct phone jack and you still do not have a
dial-tone, then maybe your modem phone jack is no longer working. You may
have to get a new modem or get that one repaired.

I have an external USR serial port modem and it is the best modem ever for
me. Make sure you have the latest drivers from USR for your particular
modem. I have a similar problem with a USR USB modem and haven't got that
figured out yet. I tried a BestData USB modem and that wouldn't work either
but did work on my notebook. Go figure.
