US Patent Office software on Windows XP

I have tried to install PASAT software from US Patent
Office. When I try to run it I get "Could not load some
objects because they are not available on the maching."
and "Compile error in hidden module: init."

US Patent Office says that I must get eiStream (for $150)
in order to use XP. The software works with older
operating systems.

Is there another alternative other than finding an older
comperter to use?

According to this page, you need Word 97 or 2000. The page does not mention
eiStream, and it seems odd the US PTO would not be up on the standard O/S.
