We are having problems on a Windows 2000 computer with
IE6. When you open the browser, it pulls up the home page
with no problem.

However, when you type in a URL, www.microsoft.com, it
defaults to --
c:\documents and settings\...\desktop\www.microsoft.com
and brings up the HTTP DNS error.

When you type in http://www.microsoft.com, it opens the
page properly. I have checked the registry for some entry
that is causing URL's to point to the local drive, but
have found nothing. I have checked for viruses, but the
PC is clean.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Either disable AutoComplete for Web Addresses (Options, Content tab)
or delete that shortcut from your desktop.

Alternatively, scroll down to something else in the AutoSuggest dropdown
that does match what you want to enter OR figure out what is wrong with
the item on your desktop.
