Urgent Problem--Start/Quick Launch/System Tray Locked Up

I have read other messages regarding this problem:
Subject: Re: CANNOT ACCESS SHORTCUTS ON TASK BAR INCLUDING START

Does everything else in Explorer work, such as folder windows? Does
control+ escape or the Windows key work to get the Start menu? Try
opening Task Manager and ending explorer.exe to restart the Desktop.
If the Desktop does not restart, click File ===> New Task (run) and type
explorer.exe in Task Manager. That may or may not work.

I cannot access any shortcut on the task bar including the
start menu. When the cursor is over the task bar I get a
continuous hour glass. I can access the shortcuts on the
desktop.

I've tried all the suggestions and nothing works. I can click on and start
programs from the desktop icons but cannot do anything at all with Start/Quick
Launch or System Tray. A program I uninstalled still shows up in the Quick
Launch--left and right clicks do not do anything.

Can someone please help? I'm getting desperate. I cannot use Run, Find File
or anything.

I'm using an HP Pavilion laptop. Trying with a regular mouse, no difference!

This sounds like your profile data is corrupted. You can verify
this by going to Control Panel and creating a new User with
Administrator privileges. Log into that account and see if the
Taskbar/Quick Launch bar can be accessed properly. If so,
then you have a corrupted Ntuser.Dat in your original profile.
You might be able to "Clone" the original profile to a new one
and correct the problem.
