urgent - pls help -----Windows XP problem

I have a fairly new Toshiba laptop ..Intel Celeron 1.3GHZ and Windows
XP, HDD 40GB

I am having problems with software all of a sudden.

When I use IE, Mozilla, Yahoo Messenger etc....my screen FREEZES and
say
not responding on the top of the frame of these windows.

I have to wait till it unfreezes itself or kill everything and start
again.

I used Mcafee virus scan, did a Defrag - but stll have these problems.

Can anyone pls help.

Even though you've done some antivirus scanning, go through these
malware removal steps systematically:

After you're sure the computer is 100% clean, if you are still having
problems post back with results of your troubleshooting. Also it would
be helpful to know how you connect to the Internet (method, ISP).
