I need (in one document) two page numberings, which will start from different number (the otherone from number 1 and the otherone from some other number)
I tried this: I plased 2 page numberings in the footer, chose one and made changes (Format Page Number - Start at). But the changes affected to both page numberings and I need the numberings to be different from oneother

Use sections. Insert section break before you need different numbering and
then set-up the numberings you want. Take care not to transfer numberings
from previous section.

I did not make my self clear. I need 2 different page numbers in one page at the same time

like this
page 1 of 28 (of this document/file) is also page 283 of 788 (of one volume wich contains 15 documents/files)
this comes automaticly, starts from number 1 to this one I need to tell the number where to star

When I try to "tell" to the numbering of volumepages where to start, the numbering of filepages receives the same "command".

Hi Mandy,

This is actually a fairly complicated request, and requires fiddling with
fields. I've copied in an answer to a similar question. Perhaps you will
be able to figure it out from there. Looking up Fields in Help may assist.

For anyone to give you the specific field to enter, you will need to be very
specific about how the numbers you want relate to your document. That's
probably why your previous posts went unanswered.

Hi Rick,

This will get real tedious if you have lots of sections/Chapters. Dopn't
format the page number to include the Chapter Number, but do set the page
numbers to start at 1 for each section. Now at the end of each section,
insert a bookmark named Sectionn where n is the number of the section. Then
use the following field construction in the header footer where you want the
page number with the chapter number to appear

Page { SECTION } - { PAGE } of { SECTIONPAGES }

Where you want the total number of pages to appear, use the following field
construction

{ = { PAGE } + { IF { SECTION } = 2 { PAGEREF Section1 } { IF { SECTION } =
3 { = { PAGEREF Section1 } + { PAGEREF Section2 } } 0 } } }

You need to build up the nesting with the equivalent of { IF { SECTION } = 3
{ = { PAGEREF Section1 } + { PAGEREF Section2 } } 0 } for each additional
section.

What you are describing is almost - if not totally -
impossible in Word!

Field editing is notoriously "buggy" - and it generally
does not work at all. If you can use another tool,
WordPerfect permits the setup below to be easily done.
Set the page number for Chapter number and page number,
then insert a text box with total pages (or just put the
total pages in the footer). You can also add a volume
number, if desired.

(centered bottom) (bottom right)
Chapter 2 Page 1 (text box [7])
