Urgent help with registry editor please

M

MarkP

Hi,

I have a friends laptop here which has lost all file associations as in the
Microsoft document - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q172053/

The problem is that is says to run the registry editor but when I click on
start I don't have the run option. Is there a way of running registry editor
from another location?

Thanks.

Sure - c:\windows\system32\regedit.exe. This is where most
system tools reside.

Hi,

Right click the taskbar and choose properties. On the start menu tab click
customize, then add the 'run' option. Apply/ok your way out, then enter
regedit into the run prompt.

Or

Double click 'My Computer', then the 'Windows' directory, then the
'System32' directory or fill the path name into the address bar. Then
doubleclick regedit.exe

If you have a Microsoft compatible keyboard, pressing the Windows Key and R
brings up the run dialog box and you type in "Regedit" to open the Registry
editor. Otherwise right click on a blank space in the taskbar and select
Task Manager. In Task Manager put the cursor over File in the left top
corner and you will see the option to open the run dialog box.
