Hi, I need help with the internet connection on one of my computers running
xp.

I have a broadband connection that goes to an adsl router and then both PCs
(XP on both) are connected to the router.
However 1 pc is able to access the internet and the other one isnt... this
problem only started a couple of days agoand it was temporarily fixed when I
uninstalled norton firewall but now its back to not being able to connect to
the internet. I have looked at the network settings, internet settings,
router settings, checked the cables, tried the cable in a different port in
the router disabled firewalls and antivirus software but I have had
absolutely no luck.
If anyone knows how I can diagnose the problem and/or fix it I would be very
grateful, especially for speedy replies.

Not quite sure what a link light is but there are two green lights above
each active connection on the router inc. the pc that cant get on the
internet. The three lights on top of the router are all green indicating
that everything is ok

I have swapped the cable from my xbox to the problem pc but it made no
difference

When i type ipconfig /all it reads that auto configuration is enabled on
both computers and they have been assigned ip addresses in the form of
10.0.0.X

I have tried using the repair function on the network properties but still
no luck

TIA

Dave

go to start run type in cmd on both machines. Run ipconfig /all again
unless you wrote down the IP addresses. From one machine at the command
prompt type the command ping 10.0.0.x where x is the ip address of the
other computer. if you get a reply the basic network is working. You
probably are going to have to enlist the help of a friend or coworker for
more advanced troubleshooting

The ping works from my pc to the problem pc but when i try to ping from the
problem pc I get a request timed out message
