URGENT HELP REQUIRED

My menu bar has disappeared from My Computer, My
Documents, etc - how can I ger it back?
(I can't drag it into view and F10 only puts a status
message on screen).

Menu bar contains rather important functions such as file
and view menus so obviously not having it is extremely
inconvenient - so please don't tell me to click on view
and select the required toolbar - the whole problem is
that I don't have the toolbar that contains the view menu!

Wow, that's a neat trick -- how did you do that?
I can't drag my "File Edit View ..." toolbar off the top area
of the Explorer window.

I think you want Shift-F10, but that won't work for this toolbar,
which is supposed to be permanent.

This URL discusses a similar problem in IE, not in plain Explorer,
but it might work for you. Just make sure you back up the
\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar\Explorer
Registry key first (in case it doesn't work).

Oops, no -- the OP had the exact same problem as you.

Cool! It works. Or at least it did for me when I nuked the ITBarLayout
value from my Registry & then opened Explorer -- the value was regenerated.

You're welcome. ;-)

Well that's what's supposed to happen. Not sure why the prev poster
suggested it.

Did you try deleting the Registry value
\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar\Explorer\ITBarLayout
?

Start-->Run, enter "regedit".
In the left pane, drill down to
\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar\Explorer

Back up the key
\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar\Explorer
by clicking "Registry", "Export Registry File..." and entering a name
you'll remember.

Make sure any Explorer windows (if any) are closed.

Highlight ITBarLayout in the right pane, and hit the Delete key.

Exit Regedit, and open Explorer.

Yup, it's OK as another user - it's just my usual logon
(where all my work is) that's a problem

Jackie

Thanks everyone,

I deleted the ITBarLayout values from the registry and
restated the machine. All's well now.

Still weird how it disappeared in the first place though.

HELLO? IS THIS THING ON?

Jackie:

Delete the Registry value I described in previous posts and
you will have your "File Edit View..." menu back.

While logged on as administrator rename the old damaged profile, then when
the user next logs on a new profile will be created from an image in
\default user. Then copy over the items/shortcuts/files/favorites, etc. you
need from the old profile. Use the import function for you mail software.
