Help. I have a problem with my Windows2000 Server machine, in that files
seem to randomly be corrupted. The Server has several workstations, running
Win98, XP or DOS, and the first time that I am aware of a problem, I try to
access a file from one of the stations, it fails, and a message appears on
the server screen. 'The file or directory (filename) is corrupt and
unreadable. Please run the CHKDSK utility'. If I then run the CHKDSK
utility, the corrupt file is deleted, along with others that I have not
previously detected. It then runs OK for a few days, then the problem
happens again. What could be causing the corrupt files? All the hardware in
the server is new, and the files in question are VB/ Basic PDS source files,
often that are hardly ever accessed. I am very concerned in that my
overnight backup is not reporting any problems, but what happens when an
important file is corrupted and I try to restore it from tape, to find that
the backup is corrupted as well . I understand that files can get corrupted
if the system is reset when in use, for example, but surely not on this
scale and with this frequency. Thanks in advance.

Andy Baker
