Upgrage to XP pro keeps rebooting - from Win2k(Volume License vers

I am upgrading a machine from Win2k to XP pro using the Volume License CD
version XP Pro SP2 (disc 2430.2) from the MSDN subsriber pack. The first
part went through OK. However, following automated restart, the machine fails
to reboot into the setup programme and continuously reboots - attemps to
repair via the setup repair choices produce the same - my development machine
is now left hanging part way through the setup procedure - I am very
reluctant to install a new copy of XP - For information the file system is
FAT32 - urgent assistance greatly appreciated

Start with the easy stuff. Did you remember to remove the XP install CD from
the drive?

Tried with both the CD and not the CD - without the CD it just keeps
re-booting. With the CD I can get into the options of repair and startup
recovery. The repair re-installs the necessary boot files and then repeats
the re-boot cycle.
I can't get as far as safe mode since the machine will not boot even as far
at the XP startup screen before re-booting.
I am wondering if XP is having difficulty with the FAT32 file structure,
although it should be compatible.
Thanks for your input.

Doesn't sound good. I would format the drive and start over again. Maybe
your hard drive is starting to die. Why are you reluctant to re-install? I'm
sure you made a good backup of your data before you started the upgrade,
right? If not, I now understand the sense of urgency in your post.

And why FAT32? Why not NTFS? ...it's more stable/secure than FAT32. But,
technically, it should run just fine.
