Upgrading XP home edition to XP Professional

Guest

I am getting conflicting information on this subject, is it possible to
upgrade XP Home Edition to XP Professional using the XP Professional upgrade
software, or is it necessary to use the fullblown XP Professional software?

You should only need the upgrade. XP is XP , same version
with different features.

Xp pro upgrade version will upgrade xp home to pro. You don't need the full
version of pro.

My OEM Full XP Pro will NOT upgrade XP Home, don't know about non OEM or
upgrade versions, but I'm sure I read on the MS site that XP Home is a valid
OS for XP Pro upgrade edition.

Yeah, it is, but with an OEM, you'll need to do a clean install as it won't
upgrade anything.

Back up first :)

OEM version do not do upgrade installs. They can only do clean install. One
of the few downfalls of oem.

The upgrade CD will do the job. *Possible* downside is that you Home
then forms part of the support for the license, so you could not then
use a (retail) Home for another machine

Hi,

You can load it over WinXP Home, but if the WinXP Pro disk does not already
have SP2 included you will need to create a slipstreamed version of it
first. Otherwise, setup will fail with an error about the installed version
being newer than it.
