i will be upgrading from 2000 prof to xp prof. however my windows 2000 has
been installed on a 2 gig hd. i did this on purpose to get my games to run
faster on my 40 gig hd. now when attempting to upgrade to xp, I get an error
that I dont have enough space to upgrade (need 516 mb).

does anyone know how i could upgrade???? i have already deleted all but
the bare bones on my c drive but am still 200mb short, however my D drive has
35 gig of empty space.

Here are a couple of options:

a) Buy a new hard disk (they are cheap!), then clone your
2 GByte drive onto the new disk. Now perform your
upgrade.

b) Use a partition managing program to split your 40 GByte
disk into two partitions of 10 GBytes and 30 GBytes, then
do your cloning & installation as in a) above.

Don't even try to shoe-horn WinXP into a 2 GByte
partition - you would run out of space in no time at all.

Any particular reason you need to upgrade from 2000? Are you sure the rest
of your hardware is not as inadequate as your hard drive capicity?

i want to upgrade because my 2000 prof takes about 5 minutes to fully boot
and i figure xp has startup streamlined down to less than a minute

You will be disappointed if that is your reason. XP may well boot faster
when first installed, but start loading it up and the boot time will
increase. Figure out what is causing 2000 to take so long and stay with it.
XP will be slower overall on the same hardware than 2000.

is there a pathway or control panel on what is included on my startup so i
may eliminate programs on startup that i no longer require

You should ask the experts in the Win 2000 newsgroups for help on your start
up configuration.
