Upgrading sp2 to sp4

sp3 and/or sp4 will not install on top of sp2 causes
numerous delayed write failures of various files, citing
network failure or internet connection failure, then
install/setup eventually ceases and cites an invalid handle

I've never heared of this; how many machines are exhibiting the problem,
what are the NTFS permissions on System32, and who is the user running
the SP?
