I am running Windows ME and want to install Windows XP. My system is able to
run it, so I went ahead and started to install, but I got a little confused
when it ask me something about which drive...I only have one hard
drive...anyway, I cancelled the installation and now when I start my pc it
ask me which OS would I want to start.....what is up with that?? do I put the
XP disk back and and install it, and if so will it just replace my windows
ME...that is what I want it to do....I just installed a 120GB hard drive and
got everything back....I don't want to have to do that again. If not what do
I do to stop my pc from asking me what windows to start.
Any info would be great!!!

When you interrupted the install/upgrade of XP you caused a modification of
boot.ini that resulted in the question about which operating system.

If you want to upgrade your existing copy of ME then boot into ME, put the
XP CD in the drive, and then run the upgrade from there. You will be given
options and the one you want is to upgrade ME.

Couple things here.....okay first...If I don't want windows Xp at all right
now, how do I change that boot.ini back to it understanding that it is
wondows ME not windows XP.
Second thing....I tried what you said.....I did boot into ME and put the XP
CD in and the only option it is giving me is a clean install, but under that
it tells me that this is the install I shoudl use if upgrading. so I did
that....then I had to restart my computer, once I got into starting the
install (Blue Screen) it told me to choose a drive, I chose the oly drive I
have, which is a 120GB that my windows ME is on. It told me that I shouldn't
put two different OS on that drive, well that is not what I want to do I only
want to replace one with the other. Oh dear.....I either want the upgrade to
work or I want to be able to get rid of that annoying thing asking me what
windows to start. Please help me....
