Upgrading Mobo Results Win2k

Hi to all,

Many times i've tried to change motherboards and left an existing
Win2000prof intact and just rebooted to try and shortcut the hardware
recognition and it failing miserably, blue screens, lock ups you name it. I
had to resort to formatting and installing, restoring backups and so on.

This week I faced a problem with a Win2000 SP4 Server I used for
experiments, in that the motherboard, an Asus AV133 Athlon model failed. I
replaced the motherboard with an intel Server model, and upon initial
rebooting, just let the OS rip and see what happens.

To my surprise, the OS re enumerated all the hardware conditions for the
new motherboard and an Intel processor (!), the only thing i had to do, was
to change the IP properties for the new intergrated NIC and reinstall the
video drivers. That was it, AD was fine, printers ok, user accounts and
programs were all 100%.

Not that particular one.....It couldn't have existed in 2000?

Just one article on transferring to another piece of hardware, it was
difficult to find with MS search, was easier with Google..
(http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=249694) Looking at this KB
article tho and the one you mentioned, the methods are similar, but if you
follow past the R for repair, you're prompted to the recovery console or an
emergency repair disk.....to wit the article does not explain the next step
for that (presumably in other articles)......?
