Upgrading Java

I need to upgrade the java environment on my computer in order for some
software to run. I am upgrading from v1.3.1 SE to 1.4.2. When I install the
new pack i would've imagined it would replace the older one, but instead
just adds itself as well as the old one, so I have both showing up in
Add/Remove Programs. Is this normal and will having both of them cause any
problems, or do I need to uninstall the older one before upgrading?

Many Thanks,
Ben Foster

Running XP Home Service Pack 2

This is normal for "java" - I think right now, I have several of the 1.3.1_?
flavors and a couple of the 1.4_? flavors, and yesterday I just installed
1.5 - go figure.
