Upgrading Hard Drive

I'm planning on upgrading my hard drive soon. Unfortunately, I only have one
bay available for the drive, so simply installing a second is not an option.
I have one of the Shuttle PCs, so it's nice and small, but there's a price in
limited space for drives.

My plan is to remove the old drive and install the new one. I have the
install CD for XP SP2 that I purchased on my own. I intend to simply install
XP on the new drive, but am concerned that I will not be allowed to register
the product for use since I already installed it on the original hard drive.

Does anyone know if I'll run into trouble with this or if the "second"
install of XP will go smoothly? I'll be donating the first HD to an NPO
where they'll format it for a small storage drive. It's not like I'll be
using Windows on two machines. I had an email to support about this a while
back, but never heard a response.

Thanks,

Robert

Thats not a problem, windows chk the computers total hardware properties
for possible installations to other machines. Also, how or why did you purchase
xp SP2 cd,its free from microsoft. If someone actually charged you for it
thier
in violation to probably fraud.Contact microsoft if they did, they'd love to
hear
about it...

Thanks! Hopefully, the new hard drive won't be a drastic enough change.

As for the CD, it's a full copy of Windows XP but with SP2 already
installed/patched/whatever, no need to download the SPs later. I bought it
direct from MS via an employee program at my place of work, so I doubt it's a
fraud copy. =)

Thanks for the help.

Robert: You could try attaching the new drive without mounting it in the
Shuttle - just set it to the side being careful to keep its electronics
insulated from any metal contact. Use the transfer software that comes with
most retail drives to migrate your existing system from the old to the new
drive, then install the new one properly. The computer wont suffer for
running without the cover on for a limited time.

Andrew: I think Robert means that he has XP, with SP2 already included?
