Upgrading from XP home to XP professional

Currently I have Windows XP Home Edition 5.1.2600 installed on my laptop and
I need to upgrade to XP professional. I downloaded the UpgradeAdvisor and
when I run it, I get a message that I cannot upgrade since my operating
system version is newer.

Has anyone faced such a problem?
How do I upgrade from XP home to XP Professional?

boot off the cd and choose the option to format and install
probably want to burn some of the manufacturers button and other drivers to
cd for your laptop first.

Create an XP CD with SP2 slipstreamed or integrated into the CD then perform
the upgrade.

This error message arises because your current WinXP Home installation
is at a higher Service Pack level than is the WinXP Pro installation CD
you're trying to use. You must either uninstall the service pack(s)
from the WinXP Home installation, or use a WinXP Pro installation CD
with the same (or higher) service pack incorporated. It's quite easy to
create an installation CD with the latest service pack (SP2)
slipstreamed into the installation files:

WinXP is designed to install and upgrade the existing operating
system while simultaneously preserving your applications and data, and
translating as many personalized settings as possible. The process is
designed to be, and normally is, quite painless. That said, things
can go wrong, in a small number of cases. If your data is at all
important to you, back it up before proceeding.

The upgrade from WinXP Home to WinXP Pro, in particular, almost
always goes smoothly, as both operating systems use the same kernel.

hid you get the answer to your question?
Since you have SP2 installed, Windows XP Pro thinks you have a newer version
installed (which is true ie SP2).
So you have a couple options:
1) get full version of Win XP or WIn XP w/SP2 and DO "Clean Install". THis
will delete everything on your HDD.
OR
2)Remove SP2 and possibly all updates, then you could use a Win XP PRO CD or
Win XP Pro CD w/SP2. You would then do an "Upgrade Install" ie you would not
have to delete everything on yourHDD.
