Upgrading from XP Home to Professional

I just tried to upgrade my operating system (from the Home
edition to the Pro) on a brand new CompaqX1000 laptop and
now cannot access the internet. My internet connection
wizard has "grayed out" the broadband option and I can't
figure out how to fix the problem. HELP!!

Does the NIC (network interface card) show up in Device Manager?

My guess is that somehow the drivers were not carried over in the upgrade,
and that they are not included with XP.
