upgrading from windows 98 to xp home

i am trying to upgrade windows 98 to xp but while
installing the program crashes once all files have been
installed. i have also tried using the floppy start up
discs from microsoft website but the same happens at the
same point. Can anyone advise what i am doing wrong??
