I need help. I am stuck. I loaded Windows XP Pro onto my nephew's computer
that previously ran Windows 98. Everything loaded great, but, when it comes
to the welcome page, it asks for a password for his user name from the 98
settings. He cannot remember the password,so, I cannot log on. Is there
anyway I can get on without the password? Or change the settings? I try to
run the Windows software again to start over, but, it won't open the CD. I am
stuck, and don't know what to do. Someone let me know if I have to have a pro
fix the problem. Thanks, Jerry Coates (e-mail address removed) or,

Try starting in safe mode.......F8 after the BIOS screens
this should give you the chance to change password/create a new one or create a
new user

Hi Jerry,

Hit ctrl+alt+delete twice at the logon screen, then type in administrator
for the user. There should be no password unless you created one during
setup. Once in, go to the users applet in the control panel and you can
reset his account password.

Simply log in using the built-in Administrator account (which
cannot be deleted) and modify the desired account(s). By design, the
only way to log into the Administrator account of WinXP Home is to
reboot into Safe Mode. For WinXP Pro, pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL twice at
the Welcome Screen will produce the standard login dialog box.
