98 to XP Pro Upgrade Problem

When attempting to upgrade from 98 to xp pro I get the following message:

Windows XP setup does not support upgrading from Microsoft Windows 98 to
Microsoft Wondows XP Professional

I tried after a clean boot but no luck. 98 is upgradeable so what gives?
I see no hardware issues. I'm trying to avoid a new installation but
will if I must.

Are you using a OEM XP CD? OEM versions will not do a upgrade; clean install
only.

Bingo. This is an OEM XP cd. I thought that when the advertisement said
it was the "Full XP Professional version" that it would do the upgrade

It's a common error, Jeff. One of the drawbacks of going OEM.
