If I upgrade from Home to Poffessional, will I lose all my files (pictures,
documents, music) etc? And have to re-install everything ? And what about the
2nd user on my PC ? Will her stuff be saved ?

Hi,

As long as a retail version of XP Pro is used, there should be no data
or application loss.

All user data should be backed up just to be safe.

Start Windows Home, and insert the upgrade CD and let it install.

That's an odd reply from a so called "mvp",because microsoft specifically
states thiers no upgrade from home to pro, only a clean installation of pro
is recomended.

Give it a rest Andrew, you have been asked dozens of times to produce the
document where Microsoft says there is no upgrade from home to pro.
You have never produced said document and never will, because it doesn't
exist.
You are a fool.
Below is where Microsoft states it is a upgrade path.
Now your turn.

Agreed, it's very clearly stated.

WinXP is designed to install and upgrade the existing operating
system while simultaneously preserving your applications and data, and
translating as many personalized settings as possible. The process is
designed to be, and normally is, quite painless. That said, things can
go wrong, in a small number of cases. If your data is at all important
to you, back it up before proceeding.

The upgrade from WinXP Home to WinXP Pro, in particular, almost
always goes smoothly, as both operating systems use the same kernel.

And that's an outright lie. Microsoft says no such thing. (That's why
they even sell a WinXP Pro Upgrade.)
