Upgrading... A grave mistake for me

I have been totally disappointed with Windows Mail in Vista.
To me, it really seems like it needs a lot of work and refinement-
much like a beta product. I only use it for newsgroups, I use
Outlook for email. The longer you use WinMail, the worse it gets.

Right now, Task Manager says WinMail is using 130,000K
of memory. I've had it opened for about 3 days straight without
closing. Even after closing it out and opening it back up, it doesn't
take it long to start consuming mucho memory. Outlook 2007 has
been open seven straight days without closing, its memory footprint
is only 16,000K.

Hehe, dunno if my original reply ever went ot not, I hit "Send" and it
crashed, claiming MS Communities was to blame.

Is this a new MS tactic? Software failed, blame the community???

Hey, don't have a go at all MVPs, I (for example) never said a word :)

Fair enough =)
I do agree though that with all the hype etc it is NOT entirely the fault
of the user when things don't work properly.

Wow, someone with a fuctioning brain!! Amazing =)

You can try to turn off a useless feature Tools>Options>General
"Use newsgroup message rating features". See if that helps.

Or, use gpedit>Computer Configuration>Administrative Templates>
Windows Components>Windows Mail>Turn off the communities feature/
set it to "Enabled".

Of course, if you're not using Business or Ultimate,
you can't use gpedit. There's probably a registry setting
you could change.

It's been awhile since I went through setting up Vista
and WinMail, but, if I remember correctly, 'Microsoft Communities'
is already listed in WinMail. I believe I deleted that entry and
created a new newsgroup using "msnews.microsoft.com", hoping
it would correct some problems I was having. It certainly helped
with fewer "(Not Responding)" messages WinMail puts at the top
left. Which, for the most part, just means it's taking a long time to do
something... I'm sure that's going to cause many users some
confusion, and they will try to close down WinMail, when all they
needed to do is wait a bit longer.
Anyway, by recreating the newsgroup and turning off the community
features, it helped... not much, though.

As far as the vista problems and the research, how long would it take for a
individual to research all these things just to find out that there was a
"vista upgrade advisor"...........that would not work?
