"Upgrading" 64bit Vista to 32bit Vista...

I built a 64 bit Vista Ultimate system. Unfortunately, some of the 32 bit
video editing programs that I use do not run reliably under the 64 bit OS.

My retail package is for Vista Ultimate sp1 and contains two DVDs, one for
32 bit installations and one for 64 bit installations.

My question is: Can I use the 32 bit DVD and perform an "upgrade" to the
current 64 bit installation rather than having to reinstall everything from
scratch?

Hoping the answer is yes...

No. You can't upgrade from 64 to 32bit. You are looking at a clean install.

I'm in the same position. Can you please give a little more detail about
doing a clean install and the implications? Can I simply install the 32 bit
version in the same partition as the existing 64 bit version. Will the
application software I previously installed be usable or will I have to
re-install it? Will I then be able to remove the 64 bit stuff just by
deleting the files? Will I be able to upgrade to 64 bit in a year or so? I
haven't done this sort of thing before so I'm a bit at sea.

A clean install involves removing all files from the partition you are
installing to. Best to delete and recreate the partition when you are
installing. You do NOT want to have both 32-bit and 64-bit in the same
partition. You will have to re-install all software. There won't be any
64-bit stuff as per item 1. You can never upgrade or downgrade between
32-bit and 64-bit. It is always a clean install.
