Upgraded to xp can't play videos, why?

I just upgraded my OS from 2000 to XP and have Office 2003. I am no longer
able to play mpeg videos that I have inserted into PPT slides. The videos
are in the same folder as the presentations. I also get a black box in the
slide like it is about to play but, no video or audio come out. Any help is
appreciated.
