Hi,
is it possible to upgrade Windows 2000 Professional (Finnish language
version) to English Windows XP Professional? Or is upgrade to Finnish
XP Pro only choice?

If you are upgrading, both languages must be the same.
So Finnish 2000 can only be upgraded to Finnish XP Pro.

You cannot upgrade or convert from one language version of the OS
to another, so you'll have to purchase and use the full version of
WinXP (in whatever language you want) to perform a clean installation.

Could he do a clean install using an Upgrade version of XP Pro English
and use the Win2K CD Finnish as the qualifying media?

You can do that at your own risk -- using one undocumented switch when
begin the upgrade from GUI in Win2000.

But because the new system folders with English names will be created,
and the old ones with Finnish names well be leaved intact -- there will
be need to do a post-installation manual tuning: mostly moving some of
the shortcuts from the old to the new folders (and replacing two of the
language settings in the Registry). Not a hard job -- but there are some
none-evident moments, and for the first time that can take about an hour
or two to understand at least, what are you doing -- and how it is need
to do that. ;)

Steve;
I do not know.
I have thought about trying it, but have never gotten around to it.

Yeah, besides you'd have to have the different XP language releases in
the right order to try. So why don't we ask the OP to try it and report
back? According to your advice he's gonna have to do a clean install
otherwise, so the risk is the same, eh? It'd be nice to know for certain.

Steve;
You already asked the OP...in your post just now.

In any case, I was waiting until I could try it.
A few minutes ago I did.
Started with a clean hard drive.
Rebooted to Windows XP Pro Upgrade English.
When asked for a qualifying CD, I inserted Windows XP Home Full Italian.
That was accepted and continued installing.
I assume that also works with other languages as well.
