If you're going to upgrade Windows 2000 Professional, I suggest that you look
for the upgrade or retail version (don't get suckered into buying an OEM
version) of Windows XP Professional rather than the Home version. The main
reason I suggest this pertains to Microsoft's support periods of these products.
The fact is that the XP Home edition (which does not qualify for the Extended
Support) drops from the support scene 3 months before Windows 2000 Pro does).

Mainstream Support: March 31, 2000 - March 31, 2005
Extended Support: March 31, 2005 - March 31, 2007
Windows XP Professional
Product Availability: December 31, 2001

Extended Support: December 31, 2006 - December 31, 2008
Windows XP Home Edition
Product Availability: December 31, 2001
Mainstream Support: December 31, 2001 - December 31, 2006
Extended Support: Operating systems designed for consumers do not have an
Extended phase
