upgrade to XP stalls

I'm trying to upgrade from ME to XP. When the process gets
to the end of "Preparing for Installation" with 52 minutes
left it stops. I saw an article about this, in the
knowledge base,happeningin for windows 95 but no info on
ME. Any thoughts?

First, the best thing to do would be to back up your data so you can
format the hard drive and do a clean install. Second, MS operating
system installation failures are usually because of bad hardware, so
you should do RAM and hard drive tests.
