Upgrade to XP Pro

Trying to upgrade a Compaq Presario 3000 laptop from XP
Home(OEM) to XPP(Retail). Gets maybe 65 % thru the
upgrade then reboots (I think during hardware detection
phase) When it restarts, it says "Setup is being
restarted" and then goes thru the whole process again.
Can't even get into recovery console because all it wants
to do is run setup. Compaq says they cannot give support
due to it being a retail upgrade and to contact MS.

To my experience, Compaq has it blocked. The only way you might be able to
do it, is by backing up what you need and install from scratch. By the way,
why are you upgrading?

If you mean why am I upgrading as opposed to clean
install, it's so I don't have to re-install everything.
If you mean why am I going to XP Pro, it's because this
laptop is on a domain and Home doesn't support domains.
