upgrade to windows xp professional from xp home edition

Hi.
I recently bought a computer with windows xp home edition. I have recently
found out that some software I need to buy is only compatible with windows xp
professional. Is there a cheaper upgrade from windows xp home edition to
windows xp professional so that I could avoid having to buy the full product.
Also where would I purchase such an upgrade?

Hi,

Sorry, but there is no cheaper version than the regular upgrade disk (you
don't need a full version, just the upgrade).

The upgrade is cheaper than the full version, upgrade should retail around
$199 and full version $299 for Windows XP Professional.

Yes, you can upgrade XP Home to Professional. Don't use the Full
version, since it costs more than the Upgrade version. There is
no special upgrade version just for this, but the regular XP
Professional Upgrade works fine (although it doesn't say so on
the box).

What software is it that needs Professional? Are you sure it
needs it? It's pretty rare that a program won't run under Home.
